Adsense Going To Shit?
Published On January 23rd, 2008 by

John Chow made a great posts today, he discusses how Google Adsense program might be failing.

Adsense blindness? Very low stock price? Low economy? Presidential elections? Whats going on with adsense?

Just like Chow pointed out, Google recently made there ads less clickable, decreasing some publishers CTR by 60%. They also screwed over there affiliates, and now they are lowering there prices for firefox downloads.

I have to agree with Chow and say that Google just might have a lower than expected quarter.

Does this affect me? Nope! And I’m happy. Unlike a lot of people out there, I don’t rely on just one form of income, and especially adsense. I am all for private ad sales, and that is exactly what I have been working on the last 2 weeks (new developerhut.com should launch Friday). The new network site will have an easy to use advertisers platform where advertisers can put ads up on all of my network sites. Plus many more cool features coming out.

Once I find a good client base, all I will have to worry about is building up my network and not relying on other people such as Adsense and YPN to generate my income. I’m excited for this because its a less stressful way of generating income for me, it might be less money than what adsense or YPN could bring in, but Im fine with that.

So back to the blog post… whats going on google? Is treating your publishers like crap (booting people for shitty reasons) catching up with you? Did you get too big? Will you be laying off 20% of your work force like yahoo? When will the GOOG stock hit 1k? Oh I have sooooo many questions :D

But in any case. I will be ready for when the shit hits the fan hehe :D

Having your own house on your own piece of land and a bunch of weapons… nothing better than that when it comes to preparedness when the recession hits :-)

Just a question: how do you find advertisers for direct ad sales? Do they come to you, discovering your network and the traffic it pulls in or have you put an ad somewhere?

I send people emails and use sitepoint and digtalpoint mostly. I have a small client tell built up also. Its not easy but I feel its better.

Building a network is much better than Adsense. I have over 50 domains related to Costa Rica and 15 related to SEO that keep things steady. It takes a while to get started, but it’s worth it in the end.

You should do a post on how to sell ads, how to price them, how to pitch them. I tried to sell ads on dp twice with no success at all.

I agree that putting all of your eggs in one basket and only having one source of income is a huge mistake and as far as G is concerned, it’s funny how, with an army of consultants, they have made a mistake such as their recent one – announcing changes to their referral program and then adjusting things instead of simply going with that approach in the first place.

I’ve noticed a huge drop within the past 2 years. Gets worse and worse by the day.
