I never used XSS to get links, just did some looking. Loks interesting. I have a ton of ways to get free links. Although most are spammish.

With such websites, I usually use some XSS exploit to get backlinks from trusted websites. I get the XSS exploit indexed through a blogger blog. Mix it with a couple of whitehat backlinks, and that's all.
Google doesn't like it very much but yahoo loves it, I can get 100-200 uv per day on a 10 pages website from long tail keywords, all organic coming from yahoo.

Doing SE you must be patient, but it's very true that longtail can bring in a nice amount of traffic, there is less competition and most important you will probably ranked fast!

A little tip for finding good, easy keywords. Think abbreviations. Many people are lazy and will abbreviate anything they can. I had a brand new site getting 100 u/v a day within a week with no links to it at all. I didnt even want the damn thing indexed yet becuase it wasnt finished. Not sure how google found it.
