How do you generate instant traffic and instant cash?
We are going to talk about one of the most overlooked marketing techniques and yet incredibly effective: video marketing.
I am not going to bore you with long and unnecessary introductions. Let’s cut right to the chase.
Pick a niche
You need to consider many things here. As a general rule, the easier it is to get a lot of traffic, the poorer this traffic will monetize.
So it’s up to you whether you want quantity or quality. In the future you will want to test different niches and find a happy balance between ease of generating traffic and successful monetization.
Search niche related videos in popular video sharing sites
Let’s say you want lots of untargeted traffic (meaning you went for quantity over quality of traffic.) So you’ll go look for videos that received a massive amount of views, comments and ratings in a short period of time.
These videos are getting a lot of exposure and you want a piece of that. So what are you waiting for? Download them!
Download them and convert them
Google Video allows you to download mpeg4 versions of their videos. We then use OvideoConverter to convert the video to AVI (which has a working free demo for your to get started.)
Add Your Promotion
Once you turned your mpeg4 into an AVI file, you open it on Windows Movie Maker and add some introduction titles saying something like this: “For more funny, extreme and bizarre videos, visit: www.mycoolvideowebsite.com”.
Then we add a similar legend at the end of the video. You could get creative here and add your website’s logo or anything you want. Windows Movie Maker is pretty intuitive and it won’t take you long to learn how to do all this.
Are you done? Well done buddy. Now go and do another 300 push-ups, I mean go and repeat this process until you have at least 10 videos branded with your own logo and/or domain.
Upload Them
This is how we do it and if you have a better way please do share it with us by leaving a comment. We use Tube Cast to handle the bulk video uploading. You can download this piece of software for free right here.
Pay attention now: Make sure you don’t repeat any words when you are entering the keywords in the tags field. For example, this works well: “funny, video ,extreme, accident, sport, sports, surfing, surf, killer, wave” but this will give an error: “funny video, extreme video, sports video, extreme sports”. The reason is that you are repeating the word “video” and “sports” whereas there should be only one instance of each word.
The problem with Tube Cast is that it will just give you an error and no explanation of what went wrong. If you get stuck in something like this try uploading the video manually to Youtube and see if you find out what the problem is.
Make sure you include the full URL of the website you are promoting on the description field. This way not only you will get a link back to your site which helps from an SEO point of view but also an easy way for your users to click through to your site without the need to remember your website’s name.
Manually entering all the information in Tube Cast to upload the videos can be time consuming. Make sure you keep a text file open at the side and paste there everything that you are using to complete the fields. If anything goes south and you need to do it again you won’t have to squeeze your brain again looking for an attractive heading, a jazzy description and keyword relevant tags.
Did I mention keyword relevant tags? Should I clarify this? Geez I guess I should. Here’s the thing: as little as I (and every marketer I know for that matter) know about ranking algorithms in Youtube, one thing we DO know is the following: If you want your video to be displayed when a user types in the search box “Britney Spears” then guess what you have to write in the Tag field. That’s right. Britney, and Spears.
We like to use url.com as a keyword research tool. Url.com displays related searches when a user types in a keyword. For the search “Britney Spears” they are suggesting the following related searches:
britney spears and paris hilton pictures, britney spears pictures uncensored, britney spears and paris hilton party pictures, britney spears and paris hilton car pictures uncensored, new britney spears pictures, britney spears scandal pictures, britney spears pictures uncensored bald, britney spears no bra pictures, britney spears paparazzi pictures, britney spears latest pictures
But remember we can’t repeat any word in the tags field. So this would turn into a tag friendly format like the following:
britney, spears, paris, hilton, pictures, uncensored, party, car, new, scandal, bald, no bra, paparazzi, latest
Makes sense? Yes it does. Read the last couple of paragraphs again if you got lost.
So we know how to download videos from Google Video, convert them to an editable format, edit them to include our marketing message, and upload them using the proper heading, description and tag format so it will be listed under relevant searches within Youtube.
That’s some progress, don’t you think? Is there anything more you should do? Actually yes!
Spread
You uploaded your videos to Youtube. But what about all the other video sharing websites out there?
Uploading your video to all these websites will not only give you another link back to your site but also send you more traffic. And that’s the whole purpose of this operation isn’t it? Getting targeted visitors to your doorsteps.
Here’s a tip I got from warrior blog. You can use HeySpread to spread your videos across multiple video sharing websites. Of course you’ll need to sign up for an account on each of the websites you want your video uploaded, but the effort is well worth it.
By doing what I just described I was able to send as many as 500 visitors to one domain within 24 hours. The website is still receiving an average of 500 visits a day and even though the traffic is pretty generic and not niched I am still able to monetize using adsense and some affiliate banners from broad niches such as ringtones and online dating.
This will not make you rich overnight but it will give you instant profits. If you are serious about generating an incredible amount of money using this system there are two things you will need to work on:
- Efficiency in the download-edit-upload-spread cycle
- Deep knowledge of a niche
About the last point. This can make the whole difference between success and failure. Recently I came across a thread about Video Marketing in Blue Hat SEO where I’ve seen people complaining that the system is bringing them traffic but not money.
Well I hate to be unsympathetic but the people whining about this need to do some serious re-evaluation about their marketing skills.
If you have un-converting traffic then you either change the monetization scheme to fit your audience or you change the source of the traffic to fit your monetization scheme.
It is actually that simple. All I can say is: think hard, think outside the box, think.
And I’ll leave you with an example to inspire your thinking. Check out the following video in which this talented marketer (whom I don’t know) tied in a huge traffic generation technique such as showing cute girls in bikini to the promotion of an expensive product targeted to a specific audience. That’s good thinking right there.
I hope you enjoyed this post and use the information here to go make some money.

Whoa Marcos - good stuff!
I always wanted to do this but didn’t really know the steps involved
I never really thought of doing this. I’m gonna set a few new sites up and try this method on one and some other methods on the others and see what comes out best.
Interesting idea, but I’d be concerned with the legality of using someone elses video and slapping you’re marketing info on top of it, then reuploading it as your own content.
Wow, not sure you want to promote such illegal activities on your blog.
Interwebhunt - David
Yes this is a blackhat.
@David and Interwebhunt: you could ask permission to the video owners if that makes you feel better.
Just like Google asks for your permission to scrape your website and use it for their own profits. Oh wait, it doesn’t.
@James: the increase in revenue is directly related to the amount of videos floating around in video sharing sites carrying your message. So you don’t need to set up many of these sites to increase your profits.
hmmm this might actually work pretty good for my site. Even though there are already a ton of GH videos up there.
GH3, if you are promoting a white hat site you could create your own videos (and of course branding them) - maybe I should do a follow post with the white hat version of this strategy.
Creative !! Nice
Yeah except Youtube has already added a mass upload function so you don’t need that gtube whatever stuff anymore.
Very nice post! I will remember to link to it and thank you for the mention!
I can see how this can work both ways white/black.
Good idea Jon.
I like this idea, I thought of it but never went through the trouble of carrying it out. I just might through if you get that much traffic a day.
Great post! It’s my first time here and it’s not going to be my last. Subscribed
