Private sales are the best. Mainly because you don’t have to rely on other people to sell them, nor worry about your account getting banned and not getting paid that month, unless paypal fucks with ya. The only problem with private advertising is that you have to sell the shit yourself, which is difficult sometimes to fill up all the ad space. But before I tell you guys how I sell mine ad space, lets look over some specs:

Pros of private advertising
1. You make 100% of the cash money
2. You don’t have to reply on other people/company’s to pay you out
3. Its usually more targeted
Cons of private advertising
1. You have to do the selling yourself
2. You have to manage them yourself (build a custom ad manager)
3. Sometimes you wont sell 100% of your inventory (losing you money)

Here are some of the most popular form of private advertising
1. text links
2. 468×60
3. 125 x 125

Above is some of the most popular forms of private advertising, I bet that you have sold some of those as spaces before on your websites. However, to actually start making good money, you should think up other ways to generate a profit and sell different types of advertising.

How do I sell mine?
I do a few different methods, first I post in forums such as Sitepoint and Wickedfire. I also have my main website Developer Hut, Inc. that I display all the prices and have a small sales letter on it. I also make blog posts on this blog telling all you readers that I have some ad space open. With those 3 methods I usually generate about 1500-2000 a month in private advertising, more than enough to pay my bills…and its totally reliable.

I also have 1 more ad slot left for the run of the network ad, thats about 600,000 page views a month and no nofollow. Go to this page if your interested.

Also
With this new company im launching, there will be a place that everyone can sell there own private advertising, update coming soon. I like to keep everyone on there toes :)

Sounds pretty interesting. My problem is i dont know how much links are worth. I have about 10 niche sites that i was thinking about trying to selling links on. Should i sell them as a group of 10 or individually? Mind you they are not all related. I have never been a big link buyer. Its new territory for me.

Yes, but with google opening a can of worms has put all webmasters in a fix…is it worth sacrificing the traffic for some link sals cash?

TheAnnand, can just add some rel=”nofollows” if really worried about it, but I wouldn’t let google scare anyone off from generating income.
