I myself rather make make 10k a month off of secure revenue platforms such as private ads and e-commerce sales than make 20,000 a month off of using pure adsense. Sounds very strange and funny but the reason behind it makes sense. With adsense you can get banned at anytime, If I got banned this month I would loose 20k and I would have to work my ass off trying to find other ways to make the money. However, using private ad sales and e-commerce sales I have less risks. I still do have risks though, like loosing my place in the SERPS, or a form of abritrage isn’t converting this week, etc. But those risks are way less than using adsense and having some salary junkie at google canning your account for some random bullshit.
This year I have been working on my online long term investments. And it has been tough. Last year I made a good amount of money using YPN, and so did a lot of my friends. But as soon as they got banned by YPN, they all had to sell there houses and BMW’s. I don’t want that happen to me. So I took a pay cut and found securer ways to make money from home. All of you should know that I own Developer Hut, Inc. which is a SEO network that ranks for certain keywords in the SERPS and the websites make money via YPN, fastclick, and private ad sales. Most of you know that I also own Buy Blog Comments which is a e-commerce website that sells blog comments. But what no one knows is that I am starting 3 more e-commerce sites that will be ranking for some competitive SEO terms. I am opening up 3 because of the seasons that they are in. One for summer, one for winter, and then one that will be all year around.
Everything will be under Developer Hut, Inc. but I wont make the 3 ecommerce sites public.
I have been working my ass off this last 4-5 months trying to figure out how to structure everything and testing everything. And I have found a way. I won’t tell you everything, but I will tell you that I will be relying on my own seo empire for backlinks. I will also be structuring it so that I will still make enough money to pay my bills even if I loose rankings, customers, season, etc.
Here is an example:
Developer Hut, Inc. (YPN, private ads, fastclick) = 33%
ecommerce sites = 33%
SEO empire = 33%
As you can see, each form of revenue has its own ways of making money. So there is no way that I could loose everything at once. Like I said before, I rather make less and be secure than make more and always be worrying about my money.
It will take me all winter to set this up. But my next summer I should be done with that goal and setting more goals for myself. Actually I about about 60% there. I just need to work my ass off this month to get everything set up, than fuck around with the SERPS to get my desired rankings.
My still all time goal is to hire an assistant to do my busy work and I would just focus on marketing and company progress. I would be working less and making even more money that way (a Lazy Business owner). But right now I have to set up the process 
I would suggest you do the same. Please don’t rely on one way to make money online, whether it be ppc, seo, e-commerce, web design, programming, etc. Always have a few forms, just in case. And NEVER rely on adsense. Its a bullshit platform to make money, they will can you at any time.

Sup Jon, I hear you on not keep all your eggs in one basket. I made the mistake of letting my roll over for a couple of months in adsense, so I could take my own *the check* pic. Anyway, those asshats decided to can my account once I asked for my money…Fock Adsense. On a lighter note…I will work for money making tips. Yeah adsense sucks. I have lost so much money from them. So have countless others.

YPN has a lower CTR but way better costs per click. Im getting an average of .30 per click. I also trust YPN a lot more, they will tell you if your doing something wrong, and if you do get banned.. they will pay you out so you have a chance to find another to make cash.

Concerning Adsense, the set-up is easy and money income (big or low) starts immediately.
Guess what? What is easier is always not the best…
If you work as an affiliate, it will require more work (choosing affiliate programs, targeting your website around your affiliates, etc.) but at the end you’ll make much more money and you get less chances to be banned.
Yes you will make more money than with Adsense… Read the previous sentence again, it is what happens to many SEO marketers (including me).
And if you have 100 affiliates, the day you get banned by one affiliate you won’t feel the pain

Great post, I too have been considering switching from Adsense to several other sources to spread the income around somewhat. I’m no where near as big as you but still Adsense is ridiculous with some of their rules and regulations. Thanks for the extra motivation to find alternative sources!
