I just published a free tool to help you find sites that have been abandoned by their owners but are ranking and authoritative (listed in dmoz). You can often pick up a site like this for a fraction of it's real value:

I too have looked into seodomains.com and it is my understanding that once the who-is information changes, content is changed or the domain expires Google restarts the clock with a pagerank of Zero.

If someone have had a different experience please post about it. I have also seen this question posed to Matt Cutts where he more or less concurred that this is the case.

Hey Jon -
Do you happen to know firsthand whether or not an 'aged' domain from a site like seodomains actually works? I've heard reports that once a domain has expired or changed hands, it loses the juice that it initially had.
