The Stock Market – Isnt It Flippin Fun?
June 17th, 2008 by Jon Waraas

Not many SEO/SEM bloggers talk about stocks. I’m not sure why, I think they are really fun. I am not even anywhere closed to being good at buying and selling stocks, but I am learning and I am learning pretty fast. I don’t want this blog post looked at me telling anyone how to work the stock market, this blog post is just a mini review of my stock trading choices. And of course I am always interested in you guys criticizing my stock trading choices.

My Stock History
Back in high school I always owned a few stocks. My junior year I bought my first stock which were a few Fords. I purchased about $100 worth of stocks, and I am pretty sure I lost money with it, that didn’t matter because I kept the stock for almost a year and I think I didn’t loose too much money off it.

After high school I purchased some Yahoo stock because I was really big into YPN and I was thinking that the publisher network would help the company increase revenue. I was terribly wrong and lost a few hundred dollars off that stupid stock. I had the stock during the time when it went from $32.08 to $25.89 almost over night. I forgot the reason why It sunk so bad, and to be honest I dont really care. I will never own that stupid stock again. Its a good thing I never bought the stock went it went down in price a few months ago. I was really thinking about it, but now the stock tanked and it will probably tank somemore. That is a stupid stock.

This last year I have been getting into stocks pretty heavily. I have owned NYX and made money off that one. I also have a few thousand tied up in Google stock. I am down a few hundred off that one because I bought a few when it was in the $600’s, but I purchased some when it was in the low $500 so that made up for it. Last 2 months I have made about $200-$300 MON which I am very happy about. I pulled out of that stock because I feel its getting too high too fast. I still think I can make some money off it, but I don’t want to risk it too much.

Right now I am currently looking at a few oil company’s that are investing money and time into the Bakken oil field. If you haven’t heard about that then check out this video below:

One stock that I can’t figure out whats going on is the Apple stock. I mean come on. The company has good products and all, but all the products are pure luxuries and hyped up big time. Why is that stock still going up? It went up like $4 today. Pathetic.

Anyways, I have probably evened with the stocks I have bought and sold. I plan on investing more time and money into stocks, I think its fun and a great way to make extra money. My hat is off to those people who get up every morning, watch Fox TV and buy tons of stocks and then sell them the same day. making something like $800 a day off a few hours of work. My real estate agent does that, he once told me he made $4000 in a few hours.

Feel free to criticize me in the comments, I will love to hear what you guys have to say. I also have to rub it in Darfs face… still think the MON stock is a bad idea? Hehe.

Update: 2 stocks I am looking at right are Sirius and XM. Read more here

I do not care if you rub temporary earnings from “gambling” in my face. I know who will win in the long run if you don’t get a proper education. Overall you know that you’re doing nothing more than pissing in the wind.

I love the sharemarket, although I have not had much of a chance to watch it lately. Hopefully next term I will be able to finish my stock broking course and actually work on the market :D

Actually Jon, the big dogs don’t make money buying and selling stocks to be honest, I invested in some as well, and read a few books on stocks, actually 5 books on stocks. The big money is in options, and hedge funds. To get into hedge funds, you have to be an accredited investor, which most people in the US are not able to be ;) . Buying and selling stocks is where the small fish play, but the hardcore people buy/sell options, and on margin.

Look into options, I’ve done it a few times and made a few bucks, it’s like insurance on stocks, just gotta know what your doing.

Stocks are great for making extra money. In my opinion, the best stocks are the petroleum companies stocks.

I can’t wait to be able to invest in some stocks. I would get some activision personally with Guitar Hero World Tour coming out. Its going to make activision allot of money.

I personally don’t have the stomach for the stock market. i would much rather invest in Mutual Funds and let the fund manager get the BP.
